Netanyahu Condemns NYC Mayor’s Digital Advocacy on UN Visit Arrest Pleas

Date:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sharply criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, accusing him of inciting hatred following the mayor’s suggestion that Netanyahu should face arrest if he visits the city under an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant. Despite these comments, Netanyahu has confirmed his intention to travel to New York in September to participate in the United Nations General Assembly. He dismissed the ICC’s allegations of war crimes as unfounded and insisted that the charges hold no legitimacy.

Mayor Mamdani has been vocal about his belief that although New York City itself lacks the legal power to enforce the ICC’s arrest warrant, the responsibility should fall on the U.S. federal government to take action. He has maintained the stance that individuals facing accusations of war crimes should not be welcomed in the city.

In response to these developments, Netanyahu expressed concerns about the growing political divisions over Israel in the United States, as well as a rise in antisemitism. He highlighted that many Jewish residents in New York are feeling increasingly insecure due to these tensions.

The ICC has issued arrest warrants linked to alleged offenses during the conflict in Gaza, a move that has been consistently rejected by Israel, which denies the court’s jurisdiction and any wrongdoing. This situation continues to spark international debates over accountability and the ongoing conflict in Gaza, underscoring the complex dynamics at play.
