Zelenskyy Says Iran Conflict Has Made Ukraine’s Expertise More Valuable Than Ever

Date:

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted with measured significance that the escalating conflict in the Middle East has, paradoxically, increased the global value of what Ukraine has to offer. As Iranian Shahed drones spread to new theaters of conflict, the expertise Ukraine developed through four years of defending against the same weapons has become more sought after than at any previous moment.
Zelenskyy confirmed conversations with leaders from the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait about defense cooperation, and stated that a formal US request for drone defense assistance had been fulfilled. He ordered equipment and Ukrainian technical specialists to be provided, describing the demand as a validation of Ukraine’s investments in drone defense innovation during the most difficult period of its modern history.
The value of Ukraine’s expertise lies in its specificity and depth. No other country has faced Shahed drone attacks at the scale Ukraine has endured — tens of thousands of strikes over four years, including a single night barrage of over 800. This extraordinary exposure produced an intimate understanding of the weapon’s characteristics, vulnerabilities, and tactical applications that cannot be replicated through research or theory alone.
Ukrainian manufacturers have translated this understanding into hardware — interceptors costing as little as $1,000 per unit — but the deeper value is the operational knowledge embedded in the Ukrainian engineers and operators who developed and use these systems. As demand for this knowledge grows with the spread of Shahed attacks, Ukraine’s human and industrial capital in drone defense becomes an increasingly valuable strategic asset.
Zelenskyy acknowledged that the Iran crisis has disrupted peace talks with Russia and warned that Russia is attempting to exploit the distraction. But he remained focused on converting Ukraine’s increased relevance into lasting strategic advantage, noting that the partnerships being built through drone defense cooperation will strengthen Ukraine’s position when the peace process eventually resumes. The world’s growing need for Ukraine’s expertise, he suggested, is an opportunity that Kyiv intends to seize.
