FIFA Attribures Record $15 Billion World Cup Revenue to Tech Innovations

Date:

FIFA is poised to reveal unprecedented revenues of $15 billion from this summer’s World Cup, significantly surpassing the initial forecast of $11 billion. This remarkable financial growth has been primarily driven by the sale of hospitality packages and ticket sales, particularly through the secondary ticket market. A 15% fee on transactions in this market, collected from both buyers and sellers, has notably contributed to FIFA’s income.

This financial boon is expected to provide substantial benefits to FIFA’s member associations, although the specific allocation of these additional funds has yet to be determined. The robust financial results bolster the standing of FIFA President Gianni Infantino as he prepares for a re-election bid in March, with more than 200 member associations having already pledged their backing.

The tournament’s success has also improved the United States’ chances of hosting future World Cup events. While discussions are ongoing about a possible U.S. bid for the 2029 Club World Cup, the next World Cup available for bidding is the 2038 edition.

As the World Cup draws to a close, premium hospitality packages remain on offer for the final match between Spain and Argentina, set to take place in New Jersey. Tickets for exclusive “trophy lounge” experiences are available, with prices reaching up to $34,500 per person.
